Race the Bloom!

Did you know that in addition to providing Emergency Preparedness consulting and training, Cascadia Emergency Management also performs event support? In order to help ensure the safety and comfort of event attendees, we mobilize our command vehicle, provide 2-way radios for reliable communication and coordination, and staff our Aid tent with experienced first responders.

The event organizers of the University of Washington’s Cherry Blossom Run (Race the Bloom!) invited us to support this year’s 5K race, and we’re glad to say it was a beautiful day for everyone to enjoy the winding course through University grounds.

The runners lined up on the starting line at the Urban Horticultural Center, ran along the waterfront near Husky Stadium, then made their way up the hill and through the main campus to the Cherry Blossom-filled quad. DJs played energizing music at the start and finish, and spectators cheered on friends & family as they ran.

CEM staff were stationed throughout the course, and near the steepest part of the route to monitor for any runners in distress, and our Mobile Command Vehicle stood ready if needed. Luckily, there were no incidents, and all involved were able to make the most of the clear and comfortable Spring morning. All in all, the day was a great success, and we were proud to be a part of it.
